  • Greetings!

Are you based at home and wondering if you are the only one? According to the SBA statistics you are not alone. Home base businesses, represent a $1 trillion Dollar market. Yes, I said TRILLION with a "T".

Not only is this a well funded market, it is also a very well educated market - 30% of the home-based entrepreneurs are College graduates. The idea that staying at home and creating a successful business is no longer a fantasy. Home business owners are creating fulfilling lives and lifestyles in the comfort of their own home.

In this issue we will look at ways to be based at home and have the structure of an outside job with the freedom of a at home life. We will discuss the importance of planning in your business and introduce you to office help without the crowd or the stress of hiring employees. (imagine that!)

BAH- Book pick of the season will be a pleasant energy booster and informative.

Enjoy this issue and enjoy your Holidays! If you find useful and interesting articles in this E-zine, please pass this along. If I get more subscribers I can offer on a more frequent schedule.

    See you in early spring!!

    Who's emergency is it?

The year has passed and I am finally taking a few minutes to breathe. I have been reading several newsletters/E-zines and and I have noticed that many of them are reflecting back on the year and also asking you to reflect back. To think about the many things you did or didn't do and make preparations for the next year. I took a moment to think about that and came to the conclusion, that if you are just now beginning to prepare yourself for the next year, you are already behind!

A lack of planning when it comes to your business is a recipe for failure. It is also a very good indication of red flags in other areas of your life. When you fail to plan, you truly are planning to fail. What lack of planning will cause are ineffective marketing strategies. Once offered to your clients and customers, will look like Quick Gimmicks and pushy sales ads..

Many small business owners who find themselves in a pinch, due to lack of planning may offer quick BUY NOW or NEVER promotions and may even threaten to go out of business. ( now who's fault is that?)

What does lack of planning look like?

If you have ever looked at your finances and noticed them being a bit low and decided to immediately have a liquidation sale, or a quick Tele-seminar on some bizarre topic, it may be due to" lack of planning".

If you are always guessing at your business account balance, when its time to pay the bills, you may have a case of "lack of planning".

If you have no back up to your most recent computer activity (the last three months), you may be a victim of " lack of planning."

This again, is no way to run your home-based business, it says to your clients and customers that you expect them to jump when you need them, it says to your future clients, buying something from you on an impulse is probably the way your relationship with them will always be.

One of the best ways to get repeat and referral business is to be a business that people can come to trust and rely on. Consistency and structure is always a good sign for your clients to know that you think about them when you put in place your promotions and ads. It says to your future clients this person wants to build a relationship with me, and it says to current current clients, this company markets like they will be around a long time. Both of these examples lead to repeat business and referrals.

So as you begin to PREPARE yourself for next year, why don't you make an effective effort to plan. Break the fist part of the next year down into manageable time periods. Look at taking this year, a quarter at a time and try to plan your activities for three months out. If you have your first a strategy plan for the first three months, congratulations! - start working on preparing for half the year now.
Nothing ever has to be chipped in stone, and should always be flexible, but at least consider having something in place that not only you can track and feel comfortable with, so can your clients. Now this is a great start to a new year!

The respect you give your business, by giving it the space and organization it needs to succeed will show up like a shinning beacon to your clients. If they know they have a consistent and reliable people to deal with, you will become more attractive to them.

    Our BOOK-LOOK

We live in digital time. Our pace is rushed, rapid-fire, and relentless. Facing crushing workloads, we try to cram as much as possible into every day. We're wired up, but we're melting down. Time management is no longer a viable solution. As bestselling authors Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz demonstrate in this groundbreaking book, managing energy, not time, is the key to enduring high performance as well as to health, happiness, and life balance.

The number of hours in a day is fixed, but the quantity and quality of energy available to us is not. This fundamental insight has the power to revolutionize the way you live your life. The Power of Full Engagement is a highly practical, scientifically based approach to managing your energy more skillfully both on and off the job.

At the heart of the program is the Corporate Athlete® Training System. It is grounded in twenty-five years of work with some of the world's greatest athletes to help them perform more effectively under brutal competitive pressures. Clients have included Jim Courier, Monica Seles, and Arantxa Sanchez- Vicario in tennis; Mark O'Meara and Ernie Els in golf; Eric Lindros and Mike Richter in hockey; Nick Anderson and Grant Hill in basketball; and gold medalist Dan Jansen in speed skating.

During the past decade, dozens of Fortune 500 companies have paid thousands of dollars to learn the Corporate Athlete training system. So have FBI swat teams, critical care physicians and nurses, salesmen, and stay-at-home moms. The Power of Full Engagement lays out the key training principles and provides a powerful, step-by-step program that will help you to:

    · Mobilize four key sources of energy · Balance energy expenditure with intermittent energy renewal · Expand capacity in the same systematic way that elite athletes do · Create highly specific, positive energy management rituals

Above all, this book provides a life-changing road map to becoming more fully engaged on and off the job, meaning physically energized, emotionally connected, mentally focused, and spiritually aligned

    Virtual Office Help (wow!)

When I was asked what does the "virtual" in Virtual Assistant mean, it was indeed a perplexing question. In today's world of "virtual reality" it could easily be defined as something than can be viewed on a computer screen, by many people all over the world, but doesn't actually exist. There are numerous game sites that take you to a virtual world of 3-d characters and settings. In fact, I once had someone totally misunderstand the concept and thought I was software which my client had programmed into her computer.

"Virtually" in the dictionary means essentially. This is my favorite definition in trying to define my profession as a Virtual Assistant (also called VA's). I like to think of myself as essential and necessary to my clients. As well, I believe that the "virtual" aspect of my title illustrates the fact that I don't share the same physical space as my clients.

The fact that I can perform all the duties of an "on-site" employee (yes, I can arrange for coffee delivery) from the relative comfort of my own office makes being part of a "virtual" profession very appealing. Operating from a home office is a dream come true for me. My experience in many office settings for many years was an excellent background for working virtually.

Dealing with various levels of management and diverse personalities was a training ground for working with clients that are themselves virtual. When you deal with people strictly over the Internet or phone, it's important to be able to portray yourself in a professional manner and to pick up various nuances from your clients, something accomplished much easier in a physical environment. That experience, and keeping up-to-date with the latest software and resources is essential to make a "virtual" relationship a success.

Open-minded clients with great communication skills are a must. Clients have to believe that a virtual relationship will work. The support of other VA's in the various associations I belong to is another "must" that makes working virtually a reality.

A "virtual" business offers the obvious benefits of any other home-based business and in my mind the benefits far outweigh the negatives. The most significant downside to working "virtually' is the lack of human contact. This is resolved by ensuring I attend in-person networking events and join various courses. I firmly believe that when you work "virtually" it's important to maintain a well-rounded lifestyle that includes your family, personal time spent on hobbies and interests, challenging your brain by learning new things and spending time with other people.

The business world is quickly moving in the direction of virtual employees/contractors and I'm excited to be part of it all!
