"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then
is not
an act but a habit"!!!- Aristotle
Please enjoy this month's newsletter on Habits and
Attitude.
What is your habitual Attitude?
Normally successful business results come from
having a goal, creating a plan and then working
systematically to execute the plan. Most people
want to be successful. Most people want to be on
the top of their game. And yet, only 5% of
Americans will set goals and have the patience
to follow-through on the steps to achieve their
goals.
Maybe setting goals is too tedious for you.
Maybe having a game plan and follow through is
too rigid. Maybe feeling like you are tied to
something you set for yourself a month ago is
way too much to ask of your free spirit.
So instead of trying to force yourself to
create and execute some rigid master plan,
perhaps you can just look at how to start
creating better work habits. Good work habits
will help you to achieve the results in your
life that you want.
So let's take a close look at
your work habits, pick one of them and examine
what could happen if you simply created a
different and better habit. For example, say you
change your habit of attitude.
What is your habitual attitude?
Napoleon Hill (author of the book Think and Grow
Rich) carried several attitudes into his every
day life - one was, as his book implies, "think
and grow rich"; another was that "anything the
mind can conceive and believe, can be achieved".
With those two simple beliefs Napoleon Hill
maintained a great attitude toward life, toward
money and toward who he was as an individual.
His positive attitude set the tone for
everything he did.
When you create your great day - What is your first
thought? What do you give yourself permission to
do? Is your habitual attitude positive? How
often during the day do you check yourself to
ensure that the positive attitude is still with you?
Make it a habit to start each day by asking
yourself - What positive attitude am I taking
into my office today? Apply it to everything you
do. And then in the middle of the day, check
that you have maintained your positive attitude.
Just before you take off for the day, evaluate
your attitude and ask yourself - What has this
wonderful new attitude contributed towards my
success today?
I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the
results.

Growing your practice |
 |
|
Growing your business can often be hard work. But,
sometimes we overlook the most basic and easiest
strategies. You have to leverage what you have in
order to get more of what you want.
Even if you only have one client, you have a
powerful
ally in building your business. Here are some
of the
best ways to maximize your client's value:
1. Testimonials-
Testimonials can be extremely useful for all
businesses
but are key in the service industry. When you are
marketing yourself to provide very personal and
intangible services (like coaching) it helps to
have
satisfied clients as references. People hire
people they
trust. So, make sure to ask your clients for a
short
paragraph or two about how you have helped them.
Ask them to provide specific examples instead of
being
general. For instance, "Joe has helped me get
my life
back on track" is not as compelling as "Joe
helped me
find ways to work more efficiently so I have
more time
for my personal life".
Even if you don't have clients yet, you can ask
anyone
you've helped for a testimonial or use students
of your
free classes or readers of your e-zine for feedback.
2. Referrals-
Who better to send you business than someone who
understands what you can do? This is one of the
challenges that we face as coaches, getting the
layperson to understand the value that we
provide. And
you overcome that challenge by having your clients
refer you to others.
There are several important considerations in
order to
create a stream of referrals. First, educate
your clients
about your target audience. Who would make an
ideal
client for you? Use client situations to make
it as real
world as possible. Then, make sure that you make
referrals a part of your conversation with your
clients. I
know coaches who have added it to their intake
packet,
others mention it during their initial session.
It's best to
be direct and tell your clients that requesting
referrals is
part of your marketing strategy. If they are
satisfied
with your services, this will not be an issue. And
finally, please make sure that your clients are
pleased
before you ask for a referral. Many coaches are
afraid
to ask direct questions about their performance
for fear
of the answers or because they don't want to put
doubts
in their clients' minds. It is essential to
check-in with
your clients regularly to make sure that they are
making the progress they want and that your
coaching
is serving them.

Your Attitude determines your Altitude |
 |
There once was a bunch of tiny frogs...
who arranged a running competition.
The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower.
A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see
the
race and
cheer on the contestants...
The race began.
Honestly: No one in the crowd really believed
that the
tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower. You
heard
statements such as: "Oh, WAY too difficult!!
They will
NEVER make it to the top," or: "Not a chance
that they
will succeed. The tower is too high!" The tiny
frogs
began collapsing. One by one... ... Except for
those who
in a fresh tempo were climbing higher and higher..
The crowd continued to yell
"It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!"
More tiny frogs got tired and gave up...
..But ONE continued higher and higher and higher...
This one wouldn't give up!
At the end everyone else had given up climbing the
tower.
Except for the one tiny frog who after a big
effort was
the only one
who reached the top!
THEN all of the other tiny frogs naturally
wanted to
know how
this one frog managed to do it?
A contestant asked the tiny frog how the one who
succeeded had
found the strength to reach the goal?
It turned out...
That the winner was DEAF!!!!
The moral of this story is:
Never listen to other people's tendencies to be
negative or pessimistic...
'cause they take your most wonderful dreams and
wishes
away from you. The ones you have in your heart!
Always think of the power words have.
Because everything you hear and read will affect
your
actions!
Therefore:
ALWAYS be POSITIVE!
And above all:
Be DEAF when people tell YOU that YOU cannot
fulfill
YOUR dreams!
The unwritten message in this story inspires me. I
could just see the well-meaning-frog-community
talking
about 'abnormal' , 'different', 'not fitting in'
and
disabled'. And support-frogs rallying round to
protect
Little Froggy from the dangers of the world.
Then a situation pops up where the thing that has
always held Little Froggy back becomes her greatest
asset. The story really appeals to a recurring
theme in
the people I work with - "Is this a gift or a
curse???!"
and invariably, they can convince themselves
strongly -
either way!
My delight is to coach people to find the things
they
really love to do and help them design their
lives around
these gifts / curses so they thrive through
everything
changing in their lives.
